Everything I do is focused on looking after my neighbor & honoring my Lord.
What a blessing to meet these young men at the Sturgis Legislative Cracker Barrel. I’m mindful that whatever we do in the legislature directly impacts the quality of their future.
Thank you to the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce for hosting a legislative Cracker Barrel in Sturgis at the Meade County Courthouse. It’s important for us to hear from our constituents. Questions ranged from mining, property taxes, no fake meat bills, and other topics. A special thank you to moderator Francie Ruebel-Alberts.
Catacomb Caucus meets every Wednesday morning in the State Capitol to start the day with Bible study and worship. Speaker of the House, Jon Hansen leads worship and Senator Carl Perry leads the Bible Study. This week Representative Heather Baxter gave her Christian testimony. Her grandfather is the architect of Crazy Horse.
Pages and legislative staff read bills out loud as required by law.
Spent a nice evening visiting with my good friend, South Dakota’s First Lady Sandy Rhoden.
Congratulations to Senator Amber Hulse for passing the State Bar of South Dakota and winning a shotgun at the Ducks Unlimited Reception both in the same week.
Honored to vote for the SB 2 an Act to provide that a firearm silencer is not a controlled weapon. Silencer Central is an important employer in our state.
Early morning at the State Capitol. For those of us on the Appropriations Committee we had a busy week with hearings from Game, Fish and Parks, Health, Transportation, Ag and Natural Resources, Housing Authority, Science and Technology Authority, Ellsworth Authority, Governor’s Office of Economic Development, Tourism, Revenue, Labor and Regulation. In addition, we serve on work groups. I worked on the School Accountability group. We have a bill coming out this upcoming week to ensure decision making rules are clear.
Here are some of my bills being heard in committee this upcoming week:
HB 1125 - This bill creates an Artificial Intelligence task force to craft commonsense legislation regarding AI.
HB 1164 - Establish the crime of fraudulent assisted reproduction.
Please pray that I will walk in humility and have wisdom as I serve all South Dakotans. Thank you for trusting me to serve you.
God bless,
District 29 Representative Terri Jorgenson

The AI task force bill is a smart move. South Dakota's getting ahead of the curve on this one instead of playing catchup like alot of states. I've seen firsthand how messy things get when tech outpaces regulation. HB 1125 could set a real blueprint if it avoids getting too prescriptive. Curious what sectors you'll priortize for the commonsense approach you mentioned.
